CLIENT:
Boardwalk Development
LOCATION:
North Park, San Diego, California
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
A young creative developer (Ben Longwell) working at the time for Boardwalk Development purchased a site that at one time was the grounds for a funky little neighborhood nursery called Exotic Gardens. McCullough and Longwell approached the garden owner to procure some of the materials left in the nursery. This material along with the project title made it’s way to the fruition of the development. Old furniture, signs, and plant material was re-purposed in the exterior amenity spaces that climb the building levels starting at level one. Unique to this development, McCullough was successful in convening the design team to place large operable doors from the units out into the corridors. Today as one walks down the communal corridors, neighbors often keep these doors open allowing for neighbors to interact and social engagement to occur.
