LOCATION:

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

McCullough’s urban design team and local legend, Ben Arcia (of McCullough) completed this third multi - family development with the developer Ben Longwell of The Society of Master Craftsmen in the San Diego neighborhood of Barrio Logan. Ben Longwell is a true craftsmen in his trade and expects the same of his trade partners. McCullough appreciates having these types of opportunities with our clients, to strive for the absolute best with the minimal resources we have available to us in this constantly changing world. We at McCullough worked closely with Ben and the architect (one of San Diego’s best, Jim Brown of Public Architecture) to craft a place out in Barrio Logan that would fit well with the neighborhood, provide a special home for the residents, and generally contribute well to the community at large. Materials were carefully selected for longevity and durability but with special consideration for how people might engage with them at a pedestrian scale. Textural, soft, and natural elements were incorporated throughout to lend to the human experience. Plant material not only on the ground but in planters hanging from the walls. A water feature for the soothing sound of falling water, and vertical walls of bamboo to connect the residents to biophilia at all levels of the development. For these reasons, we believe Daffodil hits the marks and are pleased to have been a contributor.
