PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Fountain Street project in Long Beach, California, is a transformative affordable housing community developed in collaboration with Linc Housing, BAR Architects, and our dedicated team. Addressing California's severe housing shortage, this project emphasizes not just increasing housing supply but also ensuring accessibility and affordability for low-income residents.

Located on a 62,000 square foot site on the city's east side, the development features two residential buildings surrounded by thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces. The project demonstrates that affordability and design excellence can coexist, with innovative, community-focused features including:

·         Sculptural Play Lawn: A non-traditional, non-prescriptive playground designed for all ages and abilities, serving as both a recreational and sculptural element.

·         Repurposed On-Site Trees: Trees removed for health or safety reasons are transformed into seating, signage, planters, and other site elements, promoting sustainability.

·         Community Garden: Residents can cultivate their own food and develop gardening skills, fostering community pride and self-sufficiency.

·         Outdoor Whiteboard Wall: Dual-purpose as a projection wall for community movie nights, enhancing social engagement.

The Fountain Street project aims to set a new standard for affordable housing by breaking free from traditional constraints. It reflects a commitment to building communities that inspire pride, foster connection, and create opportunities for residents to thrive.
