PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The La Jolla Cove, a small component of Ellen Browning Scripps Park at the foot of the La Jolla Village is an important site to the community and the region as a hot spot of recreation and tourism. The La Jolla Swim Club engaged McCullough to enhance the site with new plant material along with hardscape improvements to generally enhance the area. For McCullough, the goal was a sensitive approach that utilized plant material that would have a contextually appropriate nature, look good year around (with zero supplemental irrigation water), and help to stabilize a delicate slope bluff and ecosystem. McCullough and the La Jolla Swim Club’s goal is for this to be the first phase of a larger general improvement of one of San Diego’s most visited parks, the Ellen Browning Scripps Park which spreads across a large part of the coastline within the community of La Jolla.
