CLIENT:
San Diego Community College District
LOCATION:
San Diego, CA
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Located in downtown San Diego, a new Career Technology Center (CTC) has been included as part of the San Diego Community College District Master Plan of the City College facility. The new building and parking garage is encompassed by softening shrubbery, and provides a new courtyard for students. McCullough Landscape Architecture is extremely proud of this project as it is provides warmth and security, while satisfying LEED® credits. The courtyard consists of Lithocrete, integral color concrete, and seeded aggregate. A portion of the sidewalk paving at the northwest corner of the project is enhanced concrete in the form of a bulb-out, thus creating a pedestrian-friendly transition to the main campus. The landscape foliage utilizes drought tolerant plant material as well as recycled, reused, and regional materials. The irrigation system is a low-flow, water-efficient system. Similarly, a subterranean storm water filtration system is used to treat runoff. In addition to site lighting, low-voltage landscape lighting is used to up-light trees and decorative features. The service parking lot is paved with permeable paving such as decomposed granite or GrassCrete. Decorative monument signage, die-cut stainless steel lettering, announces the building at the corner of Broadway and 16th Street.
