PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

McCullough participated in a ULI San Diego-Tijuana Technical Assistance Panel to help local Chula Vista business owners develop strategies for protecting the character of the Third Avenue corridor while supporting future growth. Building on this work, McCullough collaborated with Dan Johnson and SCS Engineers on Third Avenue Lofts, a mixed-use development designed to strengthen connections throughout Downtown Chula Vista. The project integrates residential housing with commercial opportunities, creating new spaces for local businesses while bringing increased activity to the corridor.

Landscape improvements include shaded seating, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and gathering spaces that encourage social interaction and connect residents to the surrounding neighborhood.

Located near the Sweetwater River and Otay Valley Regional Park, the project creates opportunities to strengthen connections between downtown, surrounding neighborhoods, and regional open space. Through a combination of housing, commerce, landscape, and public art, Third Avenue Lofts seeks to contribute to the continued evolution of Chula Vista while respecting the history and identity of its historic downtown.
