PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Bankers Hill is one of the finest urban neighborhoods just to the north of downtown San Diego and east of Balboa Park. XPO site is directly adjacent to the southwest corner of Balboa Park across 6th Avenue. This created opportunities and constraints for this property. Balboa Park may be seen as an amenity but also a constraint as this corner of the park has historically invited a sorted group of visitors. While maintaining the important views of the park and downtown was important, utilizing durable materials that offer visual aesthetics while also creating physical barriers was important. McCullough used rock to cover the ground, low or spiny plant material in areas to maintain security and homeowner safety, and taller solid like plant material in other areas to restrain passage.
